The formation of the Colony, in July 1951, in the municipality of Palmeira, resulted from a spontaneous colonizing movement, carried out by Mennonite reimigrants (members of a Protestant religious sect, which emerged in the 16th century in Europe, based on religion and work) that, previously, they had established themselves in Santa Catarina. It occupies an area of 7800 hectares and comprises five population centers, without denominations, and arranged around a commercial and social administrative center located at the headquarters of the former Fazenda Cancela. The Colony was organized in the system of community life and communal land, but currently, the property is individual, with rural plots of 50 hectares on average.
